Ottobre Muslin #2

by Claire on October 18, 2009

Help! What is with these shoulders? I have no idea what I’m doing wrong here. They keep pointing backward even after I altered the pattern to move them forward. I’m just lost.

You can see where the seam is, and the red line is where it should be.  I don’t know if it’s the front and back pieces or how I’m setting in the sleeves. Any clues?

Even though this is a muslin, this is a better piece of knit than the last one I used and I could actually wear this one out under a jacket or sweater. It’s not a very thick knit, so it wouldn’t keep me very warm, though.

Here’s the muslin without the neckband attached. The left sleeve isn’t really twisted, trust me, it’s just how it’s hanging on me while taking pictures in a hurry. My photographer was rushing out the door.

Sorry about the blurry photo. Also, I never noticed that I have one shoulder much lower than the other. I don’t know if that’s how I’m standing or if I’m just irritated because my daughter was in a hurry to leave and took a crappy photo. LOL. And there’s all kinds of drag (pull) lines all over that back. Hmmm.

Oh well, onward and upward. I’m open to suggestions. I think I’ll attach the neckband and see what that does to the top.

I don’t think it looks bad, Claire. It could just be the fabric. Are the arm holes not matching up to the arm piece right? That might be why it is pulling. Other than that, I have no clue, but it is cute. I love the color.

Ya, could be the fabric. It looks better now that I have the neckband on. The color is great. I wish I’d gotten started sooner today because I could whip out another top in no time now.

Glad the neckband helped the shoulder seam.

As far as the wrinkles/drag lines across the back I’m thinking 2 different things. How does the hem line sit? Is it even front to back? Are the side seams straight or pulling to the back? If not you may need a bit more fabric across the back to get over the back hip area. My second thought is a sway back adjustment. If you look at the first pic you can see a bit of a wrinkle on the front left. You could pin out a fish eye dart just above the waist on the one you finished and see if that helps. Aaand it could be a combination of both! Hard to say without seeing the full length of the top.

As to your one shoulder being lower- do you carry your purse on that shoulder? I do and mine is definately most noticebly lower on the purse side! smile

Since the fabric looks the same on both sides, is it possible the sleeves are on inside out / backwards?
