Yesterday we had my daughter’s 30th birthday party and I babysat the boys after the dinner part of the party so she could have some fun adult time with her hubby and friends. I brought them home and got them to sleep about 10 p.m. – no small feat, and extra thanks to my other daughter who helped me immensely. I forgot I used to do all this alone when my two were little, and looking back, I wonder how I managed it.
This morning, the boys didn’t even start stirring until nearly 9 a.m. and again, my daughter helped me get their breakfasts ready, as I was starting to feel pretty crappy with flu-like symptoms.* The boys had a great time with me (and vice versa) and after their mommy and daddy picked them up and they left, I just stood and smiled at the toys and crumbs all over the floor and table top – evidence of the delight they brought to my day.
I captured a few pictures of our morning together.
Evan, who now clearly has decided my nickname is “Mimi”.
This next picture illustrates perfectly the joy that this boy brings to my world. How can you not love that sweetness? Does that not just make you want to giggle from the center of your diaphragm?
My other handsome grandson, Cayden, who loves to “snudge-le” (sounds like fudge but means “snuggle”) with me.
Evan looking for another chipmunk outside on the trees.
Cayden spotted one and yelled out, “Damma, look, there’s a RAT!”
“What????”
His Auntie and I looked out and sure enough, there was a small chipmunk climbing all over the mossy tree. LOL. A Rat. Don’t think I wasn’t scared for a minute.
Playing hide and seek
Cayden decided it would be cute to wear the armrest cover as a hat.
Trying to get some self-portraits of the three of us. Boys wouldn’t keep their fingers out of their noses or mouths, and I felt like garbage (hence the red, tired eyes)
(Evan – above—looks like he’s about to say something in Italian.)
Okay, I think Evan’s done. Love Cayden’s expression!
This is a hurricane that can come through my house any day.
*Went to doctor after they left and got tested for H1N1 – test was negative, but doc said that doesn’t mean I don’t have it. Often false-negatives occur even if the patient does have H1N1 – I was mostly concerned for the little kids and pregnant women around me. I do feel like crap, but she’s more concerned with my heart symptoms: palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, chest tightness/pressure. So she’s doing some tests and we’ll probably find out that everything is just fine, and I’m just worn out and run down.

doesn’t really matter what they call it… you still feel yucky. hope you are on the mend soon.
Enjoyed the pictures! Sorry you are feeling lousy and hope you get an all-clear from the doc.
You poor thing! I detest being sick, so I hope you feel better soon. But your pictures; what a scream! At least all fingers were up everyone elses nose but yours!
Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I’m feeling okay, just like a normal flu. I love looking back at these pictures and it makes me laugh. Natural home remedy!
