I'm sure your dad was telling the truth about spinning cookies on the lake. People did that all the time where I grew up. Cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles--you'd see them all out on the lake as soon as the ice was thick enough. I was just telling my daughter about how my dad (her grandfather) was born and raised in Marinette, WI, and used to tell me stories of driving out on the lake and spinning donuts. He's passed on now, so I'll never know if that was true or not, or if my memory of the story is faulty.
