It’s looking like this year is going to be a very busy year. That’s fine by me, but I’m exhausted already and we’re only on day three.
I started off my year with some sewing – my favorite hobby – next to bicycling and running. I had a choice to go to a New Year’s dance by myself and I might possibly have known more than one person there, but no guarantee, and that’s not a fun scenario for me. I chose instead to stay home and get moving on some creative projects that have been hanging over my head making me feel guilty every time I walk past my sewing loft on my way to get coffee.
My youngest daughter, Stacy, just got her crib and changing table – thanks to her grandma (baby’s great grandma) – and so she needed sheets and a dust ruffle and other fun stuff. She’s so lucky her mama can sew! I plan to do another post on just how much she’s saving by me sewing this stuff.
Stacy picked out some fabric from Joann’s and it’s too darn cute. We searched all over for some pink Tinkerbell fabric suitable for a baby and no success. I think I’m going to write to Disney and Springs Industries (who seems to be the main manufacturer of Tink fabric) and ask what’s up with no pink Tink. Tink IS a girl, after all. Possibly they’re aiming for 8 year old girls with all the blue, lime green, and purple, but they need pink!
Here’s my baby sewing status report:
- Prewashed all the fabrics we’ll be using
- Completed a flannel sheet, a second one almost done – needs elastic and I’ll finish that this morning.
- Made a dust ruffle. For the landing piece (the part that goes under the mattress) I reused a queen-sized dust ruffle that I hated and stitched on the cute baby border print. I have enough of the landing part for another dust ruffle in different fabric.
- Cut out and am prepping the quilt to go with the set but I need some less lofty batting, but not as thin as the Warm & Natural kind. Off to Joann’s today.
- On deck: remaining print from the border print to create bumper pads for around the crib, and additional sheets and receiving blankets.
I hope to have these done in time for her baby shower on Saturday, because you know those girls will all be traipsing upstairs to see the nursery set!
Here’s a closeup of the dust ruffle & the crib sheet:
The quilt top (the flip side is a matching flannel print with the little pink flowers like you see on the border):
You can see in this next photo how high the loft is of the batting I had in my stash. I don’t think my sewing machine will maneuver through that very well.
A shot of the border print – what you see there is what was left in the center of the three yards and the borders already cut off and sewn into the dust ruffle. Perfect for crib bumpers. Look at the cute faces on that bug!
Oops! My cat, Marie, at the top there vying for attention – she thinks her face is the cutest. Look at this pose! Showoff!
Okay, more later, peeps. I gotta keep busy!

Oh my goodness, I said it before and I’ll say it again, you are the “Energizer Bunny.” Everything you’ve made is so adorable and sewn with so much love.
What a great Mom and Grandmom you are!
Oh, Joanne, you are too sweet. Did you see my tweet with the picture of my Moulin Rouge watercolor just for you?
I saw your comment on the Nesters Blog about RSS feeds. Can you answer a question for me. I have been blogging for 7 plus months on BLOGGER and have had one problem after another. I am in the process of trying to move over to WordPress-sorry I didn’t start there. I paid for my name back in Aug but I have dealt with soooo many problems I am just now getting to work on this.
If my followers (which I understand I can not take with me) follow my current Blogger Blog in RSS feed do I understand it correctly that I can not take that with me either?
I have over 550 followers and a little over 100 in RSS feeds.
I will follow your blog.
Cheri
Hi Cheri – I’ll reply to your questions in email as well. Once you convert over to Wordpress, your followers will be able to update their feeds by resubscribing. There may be a way to get them to autofollow, but off the top of my head, I’m not sure how. I’ll pose the question on Twitter and possibly some of my geeky followers will know the answer. Some people love Blogger, I’m just not one of them. I’ve never had any issues with Wordpress, ever.
And thanks for stopping by! I’ll check out your blog as well.
The fabric is adorable! I think those will always be my favorite color combos. Your daughter is indeed lucky to have you make all of this for her. My mom made all three of my kids’ crib sets and I loved them.
I have to laugh at the kitty picture. My Chlorox lies on everything I sew. Everything!! I don’t think there’s a cat alive who doesn’t do that, but you have to wonder why?
Keep sewing, we all want to see pictures after the shower Saturday!
Honestly, Laura, when Marie posed like that on the fabric, I instantly thought you’d get a kick out of the picture! That’s why I didn’t crop her out. LOL. I’m still sewing and will definitely share pics of the shower.
Thanks for being so supportive.
Beautiful! I’d say your 1st three days of the new year were most definitely productive! My mom made similar items for my two kids and I still have some of the receiving blankets that she made to be passed down to their kids – well, if they ever have any, that is!
Honestly, that fabric is one of the cutest prints I’ve ever seen. So sweet!
Hi Bev – yes, I feel as if I was very productive. Now to keep that going while working a full-time job during the week. I usually get so tired by the time I’m done working that the only thing I want to do is zone out. LOL. But I’m motivated right now to finish projects. It feels good!
I told my daughter you think that print is cute. And it is!
Very cute!! The nursery will be adorable.
Julie
I hope so, Julie. It will be even more adorable with a sweet baby in it! Only about 2 more months now!
