When we were in Packwood this last weekend we stayed at this cute little farmhouse. Ok, so, not so little. It had four bedrooms, two full baths, two wood stoves, and a kitchen that looked like it came out of a Pottery Barn catalog.
My brother found the place online and worked out a great price with the owner. This place is definitely pet friendly as well. (You can find them on Facebook here or a general overview here.) I believe they actually have three lodging choices – the farmhouse and two log cabins. There were so many nice things about this place and decorating touches that I loved that I thought I’d capture them here.
So, let’s take a little tour, shall we? The overall look of the farmhouse is very eclectic – a definite mix of styles from antique to leftover 1980s décor to current modern cabinets and soft furnishings.
The kitchen. Aaah. Countertops are not granite, but look like it. The kitchen was fully stocked with just about any item you could imagine or need. The drawers on those cabinets are the kind that close on their own. Sweet! The only thing missing, however, was soap for the dishwasher so we hand-washed our dishes. The drawer to the left of the kitchen sink pulled out and housed two trash cans – perfect for recycling.
The owner left a nice little welcome for us in the kitchen:
The living room (really a Great Room), which you enter into from the front door.
This wouldn’t exactly be my choice of coffee table and couch but I liked the side chairs and the overall effect was very cozy and comfortable. Besides, we weren’t inside much to really care.
The side chairs that I liked:
The view of the dining area and front door from the couches:
The wood-burning stove.
Antique sideboard in the dining area.
One of the bedrooms – this is the one I stayed in.
Pine floors – very rustic. Antique furniture down duvet and pillows. The bedding is Eddie Bauer Home. The sheets are a pale sage floral and I liked the combo with the plaid. Although I probably wouldn’t think of plaid in my own home – a little too “country” for my tastes, but it’s perfect for this venue. I absolutely LOVED the use of beadboard in this home. I definitely have been wanting to do this in my home and it’s super easy to install. I just need the extra pair of hands and the proper tools.
Pretty antique dresser:
One of the two bathrooms:
Yes, the farmhouse included a front-loading washer and dryer. Sweet. The curtain and décor in this bathroom is Pottery Barn.
Both bathrooms used subway tile around the bathtub and shower. We just did the same thing in my mom’s condo.
I didn’t take pictures of everything in the farmhouse – there was too much to capture – but I did take pictures of some of the little details that I wanted to remember and possibly incorporate somehow in my own home.
The owner grew fresh lavender on the property and had sprigs of them scattered in jars on counters and in these wall hangings throughout the home.
Ann and I both liked these jars that had pinecones, local moss, and other natural ingredients on this shelf in the bathroom.
I liked this little hook that was used to hang a picture (or a mirror, can’t remember.)
Cute towel stand and side table.
I also love the wall color in this bathroom.
This little alcove was kinda cute for hiding the TP from the view from the door.
Another wall hanging.
This little shelf unit was kinda cute. (Sorry about the blurry photo). Those are door knobs for coat hooks. It’s not functional, however, the way she has it hung. Believe me. I tried and almost tipped it sideways.
I wish I’d remembered to capture more of the outside amenities, like the hot tub and patio area.
View of the entrance in the sunshine.
Loved these little light posts.
A little bird feeder hanging off a tree.
An interesting candle holder hanging over the picnic table.
Another little dining vignette.
Really red chairs surrounding a fun fire pit. (The red color kind of burned my retinas.)
But this was my favorite spot.
Yes, it was a good vacation. More outdoor pictures to follow.
